stranded travelers are basically no longer on their own

This is a comment to the article:
Your flight’s been canceled? What to do if you’re stuck

It is a useful article and I’d like to add some comments regarding the part of “Tweet for help”:
It is not only with the airline that you can connect but also with peers who are around you and who also wish to find a solution to their problem.
Why not start ‘socializing’ and go with few others to a restaurant or even get a pizza delivered.
Apart from the social dimension, a group of stranded travelers may then be able to rent a car together, share a taxi or even hire a whole bus!

It is also important to use key words that others can identify. For instance, key word like #putmeup was used for people who needed a place to stay and could not find a hotel or did not have the budget for it.

On the other hand, by telling the world that you need to travel, sleep or eat and that you are stranded, there are initiatives like SOStravelers that can help you by connecting you to a human interface, that is a travel agent available 24×7.
Thus, it is no longer true to say that :
“travelers are basically on their own.”
Some peers and some travel professionals are willing to help.
Just … ask :-)
